25 years ago, the IMPRS-ESM set out to train a new generation of Earth system scientists. Today, our alumni lead research groups, shape climate policy, and advance the field across the globe. We invite you to join us in Hamburg to celebrate, reconnect, and share what you have built.

Thursday, 15 October
Reflections from people who shaped the school for a quarter-century are followed by talks and a poster session from our current cohort of doctoral candidates, showcasing the research questions driving IMPRS-ESM today. In the afternoon we will take a look back at 25 years of the program, followed by a panel discussion bringing together past and present perspectives. The day closes with a networking dinner, the perfect setting to catch up with old colleagues and meet new ones.

Friday, 16 October
The second day puts individual alumni in the foucs. Choose from excursions to DKRZ and Haus der Erde, hear career talks from graduates who’ve taken their PhDs in directions ranging from academia to industry to policy, and join roundtable sessions for more informal exchange. Participate in sharing your own story.

We will close the event and the anniversary with a final round of networking before saying farewell.

Registration deadline: 31 July 2026

Whether you were among the first generation of IMPRS-ESM students, you are just started your PhD journey, or you were a long term supervisor, we look forward to welcoming you!
